Operation Waikowhai: Case 5
Katrina Jefferies was found dead on the morning of Tuesday 12 July 2005 in Waikowhai Reserve, Auckland. To date her killer has not been found. Officer in charge; Detective Senior Sergeant Gerry Whitley is determined to solve this "whodunnit homicide".
22 year old Katrina was found early on Tuesday morning, semi-naked and wrapped in a red tarpaulin and a black plastic rubbish bag on a slope in Waikowhai Reserve. She suffered injuries to her upper body. An old framed copy of a painting and a piece of plywood were found next to her body.
Katrina and her young son were living with her mother in Mt Roskill at the time of her death. Katrina had many friends and enjoyed socialising. When she left her home on Sunday evening, it is believed she met up with some of them.
Police are determined to solve this puzzle and want to hear from anyone who may have been with Katrina or Katrina's friends on Sunday night or Monday. Police are also interested in talking to anyone who may have seen any activity in the area surrounding Katrina's Mt Roskill home and the Waikowhai Reserve from about 7.30pm, Sunday 10 July 2005 until the morning of Tuesday 12 July 2005.
At the time of her death Katrina was wearing:
- Dark tracksuit pants
- Burgundy Shoes
- White Shirt
A $50,000 reward is being offered for material information or evidence, which leads to the identity and conviction of any person or persons responsible for the death of Katrina Jefferies.
