Tim Southee
DOB: 11/12/1988
Playing Role: Bowler
Batting Style: Right-hand bat
Bowling Style: Right-arm fast-medium
Tim Southee was always destined for higher honors when he made
his first class debut for Northern Districts at just 18-years-old
and his rich promise was quickly realised when he led the New
Zealand under-19 side to the semi-finals of the age-group World Cup
in 2007. Southee's 16 wickets resulted in him being named player of
the tournament. Southee's dizzy rise to national honors came soon
after when he made his international debut, at 19, in a T20
international against England later that summer but it was his Test
debut, also against England, that confirmed his special talents.
His controlled spell of textbook out swing bowling on the first
morning of the Napier Test returned figures of 5-55 and he later
backed up with a whirlwind innings of 77 off 40 balls. While
Southee hasn't quite lived up to those lofty heights
since there is little question that he will be a central
figure for the Black Caps for many years to come.
