Rob Nicol
DOB: 28/05/1983
Playing role: All-rounder
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm off-spin
Nicol's name had long been bandied about in selectorial debates
and when he finally did receive his international call-up in
October 2011, he batted as if he was making up for lost time by
becoming just the second New Zealander to score a century on ODI
debut. A prolific run-scorer for Auckland and latterly Canterbury
at domestic level, Nicol is a hard-hitting opening batsman and a
useful part-time off-spinner with a habit of breaking partnerhips.
Test opportunities are likely to be limited but the
Cantabrian is already well on the way to staking a permanent place
in the ODI and T20 teams.
