Pakistan cricketer Yasir Arafat has been signed as Otago's overseas professional for the domestic limited overs competitions this summer.
The 27-year-old bowling allrounder has been named in the Pakistan squad for three Tests in New Zealand starting on November 24.
After that, he will link up with Otago for the national one-day and Twenty20 competitions.
Arafat replaces Englishman Dimitri Mascarenhas as Otago's overseas player.
Arafat, who has experience in English county cricket with Sussex and Kent, has played three Tests and 11 one-day internationals for his country.
"He's played a lot of cricket for Sussex and Kent, and he's able to swing the new ball and reverse the old one," Otago coach Mike Hesson said.
"He is also a very good exponent of bowling at the death. In terms of what our skill mix is, he fits in nicely. I'm certainly expecting big things from him."
Otago won the domestic Twenty20 competition in 2008-09, earning them a spot in the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 in India last month where they exited early.
