A maiden first-class century to Tarun Nethula and near miss by Adam Milne have put Central Stags in a powerful position in their Plunket Shield match against Central Stags at Napier.

Central began Day Two at 367-7, with Carl Cachopa (123) already reaching triple figures. Nethula (87) and Milne (38) were at the crease, and the pair completed a partnership of 133, before Nethula finally fell for 108.

Milne eventually departed painfully short of his century - adjudged lbw Ian Butler for 97 - and his departure brought the Stags' innings to a close at 476 runs.

Otago were staggering at 62-4, until Sam Wells brought some stability with 78 runs off 87 balls. All-rounder Butler continues to stave off the follow-on, battling on 53 not out at the end of play, with the Volts on 232-9.

Milne has his fine batting performance with a five-wicket bag (5-44) in the Stags innings.
