Black Caps seamer Kyle Mills is contemplating a summer on the sidelines after opting to have surgery on both his injured shoulder and knee.

Mills says he has been battling patella tendonitis for the last two years and then injured his shoulder at the Twenty20 World Cup.

He has tried to play with the injuries but they have been affecting his bowling.

Mills is targeting to return to the Black Caps for the World Twenty20 tournament in the Caribbean in late April.

Mills is expected to undergo surgery in the next two weeks for a torn rotator cuff on his left shoulder.

He will also have surgery for a chronic injury to the patella tendon of his right knee which he has had for some time, but which has been managed without affecting his ability to play.

The shoulder surgery provides him with an opportunity to also address this issue.
