Luke Woodcock
DOB: 19/03/1982
Playing role: All-rounder
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Left-arm off-spin
Sheer weight of runs forced the selectors' hand into elevating
the stocky all-rounder to the international arena; oddly though, he
seems to have been earmarked as bowler who bats a bit. Woodcock
topped the State Shield batting charts in 2010 with a remarkable
988 runs, and though his ODI and T20 appearances have thus far been
limited, a highlight was claiming the final wicket in the Black
Caps' memorable World Cup quarter-final win over South Africa. A
powerful middle-order batsman and a tidy left-arm tweaker, Woodcock
will compete with Nathan McCullum for the role of Dan Vettori's
spinning deputy.
