Paceman Brett Lee is out of contention for the first Test against the West Indies in Brisbane next week after his elbow injury flared up.

Lee was on Monday ruled out of NSW's Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania starting on Tuesday following a reaction to his elbow complaint from Sunday's one-day clash against the Tigers at North Sydney Oval.

"Brett Lee was not considered for this match after suffering a reaction to his elbow injury," Cricket NSW said in statement on Monday.

"Brett remains upbeat at this stage but will seek advice on the next course of action regarding further treatment on the injury."
