Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria is expecting Australia to put up a strong fight on day four of the second Test at the SCG on Wednesday.

The home side is staring down the barrel of a humbling defeat at 8-286 in their second innings, a lead of just 80.

Mike Hussey is unbeaten on 73 and Peter Siddle 10 not out.

"Hopefully cross the fingers and Inshallah ... we will come out and take the two wickets as soon as possible and then play positive," said Kaneria.

"Cricket is a very funny game, you never know what is going to happen.

"The Australians will come very hard at us.... and when they come to bowl and nobody likes losing.

"But we are very positive and confident that we should play our natural game and Inshallah ... God will help us."

Shane Watson hopes Australia can set a target of around the 150-run mark to give the bowlers a chance of pulling off an unlikely victory.

"The wicket is still doing a bit," he said.

"The new ball's still seaming and bouncing and some are keeping a bit low, (there's) still enough there for the bowlers."

A Pakistan win would level the three-Test series at 1-1 before the final match is played at Hobart's Bellerive Oval next week.

Pakistan have never won a Test series on Australian soil.
