Chris Martin
DOB: 10/12/1974
Playing Role: Bowler
Batting Style: Right-hand bat
Bowling Style: Right-arm fast-medium
A veteran at the ripe old age of 36, the slender right-arm seamer
from Christchurch has become the mainstay of New Zealand's pace
attack. Martin's laid-back nature, occasional awkwardness in the
field and astonishing incompetence with the bat have made him
something of a crowd favourite, but his value to the team became
evident during a breakthrough home series against South Africa in
2004 where he claimed 18 wickets in two Tests. Though his pace has
mellowed, Martin's ability to move the ball through the air makes
him a real handful to left-handers and he is a bowler who can be
relied upon to run in with the same gusto on the last ball of the
day as the first. Remains on the outer in the shorter form of the
game but in 2011 became just the fourth New Zealander to take 200
Test wickets.
