Playing Role: Batsman
Batting Style: Right-hand bat
Bowling Style: Right Arm Medium
Big things were expected of the former U-19s international when
he stamped his mark on the domestic scene as Otago's top run scorer
in the 2006/7 season. After two more years of solid run-scoring, he
earned a Black Caps call-up in January 2009 and has become a
regular in the middle order. Broom can play the roles of
accumulator through the middle order or late-innings dasher, and a
further string to his bow is his wonderful athleticism in the
field. Still yet to play a defining innings on the international
stage, Broom is nevertheless well-known across the Ditch for his
involvement in the Brad Haddin "Glovegate" controversy. A
contracted player for a second time now, Broom could be
pushing for a Test spot this summer if he continues his impressive
domestic form for Otago.
