Andy McKay
DOB: 17/04/1980
Playing Role: Bowler
Batting Style: Right-hand bat
Bowling Style: Left-arm fast-medium
McKay has plenty in common with New Zealand's best fast bowler
of a generation, Shane Bond. Like the now-retired speedster, the
wiry Wellingtonian is a relative late bloomer, generates
considerable pace and - unfortunately - is prone to the odd injury.
After spending much of his career with Auckland, McKay rejuvenated
his career with a move to Wellington in 2009. The left-armer made
an immediate impression in the capital, finishing joint top-wicket
taker of the domestic one-day competition. Picked for the home ODI
series against Bangladesh, McKay made a mark with his pace and
control, and a Test debut beckoned before a stress fracture in the
foot ruled him out for the remainder of the summer. Now fit again,
McKay is set to appeal once again as a strike option at a time when
New Zealand cricket is poorly-endowed with genuine pace.
