Peter Young - cameraman

Peter Young is no stranger to the rural scene - as a young man he spent ten years shearing, fencing and mustering, including 18 months on Molesworth Station.

He began writing and directing at TVNZ's Natural History Unit in Dunedin in 1989, but his interest in photography led him to become a cameraman.

He established his own company, Fisheye Films, and aside from Country Calendar has shot many wildlife, science, art and history documentaries.

He also produces, directs and shoots TV commercials, music videos and dramas, as well as producing the popular Hunger for the Wild and Coasters series.

Peter has won many awards for his skills and creativity behind the camera but he says the real reward comes from working with a great team and bringing the stories of everyday New Zealanders to the screen.

"Country Calendar has taken me to some wonderful corners of the country," he says.  "It's a physical job, it's creative and I really enjoy the people I meet along the way."
