Michael Huddleston – director
Hudsie’s only rural credentials were spending Year 8 in the “farm class” at Masterton Intermediate School. The students were responsible for a nearby farm and got their hands pretty dirty over the course of their studies. Soon after, he shifted to Wellington to become a city slicker with only fond memories of the country.
He spent the first 11 years of his TV career working as a sound recordist, then switched to directing. Over the last 15 years he’s worked on many one-hour documentaries as well as TV shows like Mitre 10 Dream Home.
He enjoys travelling to far-flung places with Country Calendar. “Meeting terrific honest people and helping tell their stories is an honour for every member of the Country Calendar team,” he says.
Hudsie’s Mum cried with joy when she found out he was working on the show. And he feels that working on New Zealand’s premier programme is a sign that he has finally grown up.
