Julian O'Brien
Julian O'Brien is mostly trapped behind a desk as Hyundai Country Calendar's producer, but he still finds time to get into the field to report and direct the occasional episode.
He started as a director on the programme 27 years ago and has been involved with the show much of the time since.
He has also worked in newspapers, magazines, radio and TV news, in public relations, and as director and producer of corporate and educational videos. His other television directing has included the Assignment current affairs programme and several one-hour documentaries.
Despite his wide media experience, Julian says Country Calendar is his all-time favourite show. "It's the ultimate job for meeting great people and getting to some wonderful parts of the country," he says.
Julian isn't a true country boy - originally from Dunedin, he now lives in suburban Eastbourne, near Wellington.
