Frank Torley - former narrator
Frank Torleyalways wanted to go farming when he finished school - but it didn't happen that way. After working on farms he joined a stock firm, but was plucked from the Feilding saleyards to join the NZBC as a rural broadcaster.
That eventually led to a job on Country Calendar and he remained with the show till his death in March 2016, so it's not surprising that he became seen as Mr Country Calendar.
Frank became producer in the early 1980s, a role he continued till 2006. He then went back to his first love - back on the road directing programmes - and from 2014 was narrator for all episodes.
Frank also presented Canterbury's local TV news, fronted 'Top Town', spent a short period in religious programmes and produced the doco series 'From Here to Maternity'.
Frank Torley died on 27 March 2016 after a short illness and will be sadly missed by all who had the honour and the enjoyment of working with him during his 48 years of involvement with the programme.
