Storylines: Started a building business with

and he was briefly paralysed.
Steve dated Fiona Middleton, and the two started living together, however Steve left her to marry Alec Gilroy's wealthy granddaughter, Vicky Arden. When Steve was arrested over stolen whisky he tried to blame Vicky and perjured himself. He was sent to prison and Vicky divorced him.
Steve later married Karen Philips who was initially trying to win a bet with Janice Battersby. The pair split after Steve had a one-night-stand and Karen became involved with Joe Carter who was attempting to take over the factory from Mike Baldwin.
Returning to Steve, Karen decided they should divorce in order to have a second and very elaborate wedding. However the big day was ruined by Tracy Barlow who arrived and announced that Steve was the father of her baby, not Roy Cropper. To get back at Tracy, Karen stole her car (with Amy in it) and torched it. Amy was unhurt but this ended things between Steve and Daren.
Steve won legal access to his daughter, and after Tracy was jailed for the murder of Charlie Stubbs Steve became a full time dad. He remains on good terms with Amy's grandparents Deirdre and Ken.
Borrowing money from local heavy Jez Quigley, Steve invested in mini cab business StreetCars with Vikram Desai. When he failed to repay the money he was severely beaten and nearly died. Jim took revenge on Jez and was jailed for manslaughter after Jez died from his injuries.
Lloyd Mulaney bought Vikram's share in StreetCars, however he and Steve had a falling out when Steve had a one-night-stand with Lloyd's girlfriend Kelly Crabtree. The affair was exposed when Steve used Kelly as an alibi when he was framed for a hit and run accident that had been committed by his girlfriend Ronnie.
Steve went on to buy the Rover's from Fred Elliott, and Liz became landlady. Here Steve met barmaid Michelle Connor and tried to woo her away from Sonny Dhillon, exposing Sonny's bi-sexual affair with Sean.
Eventually Steve got his girl and Michelle and her son Ryan moved into the Rovers, along side Liz and Vernon.
On a holiday to Malta with Eileen Grimshaw, Steve kissed a girl
called Shania, who turned out to be a transvestite, luckily for
Steve, Michelle saw the funny side. His relationship with Michelle
came under pressure with the appearance of Michelle's biological
son, Alex.
Lied in court for Becky Granger.
Dumped Michelle and proposed to Becky.
