Michelle Collins plays Stella Price
Michelle Collins (born 28 May 1962) plays Stella Price on Coronation Street.
Michelle was born in Hackney, London and has one older sister.
She began acting as soon as she left school, making her stage debut in The Crimson Island at The Gate Theatre.
After appearing in the music video for Up The Junction by British band Squeeze, Michelle’s career moved into musical territory. She joined Mari Wilson and The Wilsations as a backing singer. She toured the UK with the band for 18 months, before returning to acting when the band split in 1982.
It was in 1988 that Michelle landed the role that would make her a house-hold name. She signed up for an 11 episode stint in the BBC’s flagship soap opera EastEnders, playing Cindy Williams (later Cindy Beale). Executive Producer Julia Smith was so impressed by Michelle’s performance that the character was made into a regular character.
Michelle stayed with EastEnders for 10 years and in this time the character of Cindy reached iconic status, being involved in numerous high-profile storylines during her time on the show, including arranging to have her husband murdered.
After leaving EastEnders in 1998, Michelle appeared in a number of successful British shows including Real Women, Sunburn and Two Thousand Acres Of Sky.
It was in 2011 that Michelle would make her return to the world of soap operas, joining the cast of Coronation Street as the new landlady of the Rovers Return, Stella Price. Michelle is perhaps the most high-profile actress to appear as major characters in both shows.
First appearance on Coronation Street in the UK:
16 June 2011: Stella meets with Steve McDonald to interview for the position of landlady of the Rovers Return Inn. He is impressed and offers her the job.
