Character: Flighty and romantic Mavis was Rita's idealistic off-sider at The Kabin; she enjoyed a glass of sherry, kept a budgie and eventually found her match in the equally dithery Derek.
Storylines: Working along side Rita, it looked like twittering Mavis might get left on the shelf. Her biggest excitement was when her budgie Harry laid an egg and turned out to be Harriet instead.
However Mavis found herself torn between two lovers when she came to the attention of Victor Pendlebury and Derek Wilton. Victor, artistic and romantic took Mavis camping and wanted her to live with him in a trial marriage. Derek on the other hand was more cautious and pedantic, appealing to Mavis' steady side.
Mavis agreed to marry Derek, but always unsure of herself, stood him up. Only to find out that he hadn't turned up either.
Derek and Mavis were reunited years later when he divorced his wife Angela. They rekindled their romance and again became engaged. Although both Derek and Mavis had cold feet on the day, the wedding went ahead and the pair settled down to their garden gnomes and allotment.
Mavis was widowed went Derek suffered a heart attack following a road rage incident on Mavis' birthday. She surprised everyone at the funeral by rallying against those who had consisted them a joke.
She left the street to run a guest house in the lake district.
