Dev Alahan

Jimmi Harkishin plays Dev Alahan on Coronation Street

Dev (Devendra) Alahan

Played by: Jimmi Harkishin

First Appeared: 1999 (UK)

Date of Birth: 3 March 1964

Occupation: Owner/operator of the corner store. Former co-owner of StreetCars with Steve McDonald

Relations: Father of teenaged daughter Amber Kalirai (and several other illegitimate daughters), and twins Asha and Aadi Alahan to (now estranged) wife Sunita. Cousin to Vikram Desai

Love:  Estranged from wife Sunita. Had a relationship with Maya Sharma, as well as liaisons with both Deirdre and Tracy Barlow.

Storylines: After rejecting Maya in favour of Sunita, Maya took revenge. Sunita was arrested during her wedding to Dev after Maya implicated her in an immigration scam.

Maya then went on the rampage, setting fire to Dev's shops. Dev was knocked unconscious and he and Sunita were left to die, before being rescued by Charlie Stubbs and Ciaran McCarthy. They narrowly escaped being run down.

Dev sold his share in StreetCars to Lloyd Mullaney to buy a house for Sunita. When Sunita was pregnant with twins she discovered Dev's history of producing and rejecting illegitimate children, Amber among them. She left him before the twins were born.

Dev's daughter Amber came to live with him after her mother left the country. She works in the shop with her father. Although initally unwelcoming of Amber, Dev has since grown into the role of fatherhood and is protective of his teenaged daughter. He keeps a close eye on her, and enjoys embarassing her in front of her peers.

Dev is generally affable, but can also be surly and sarcastic - a trait shared by Amber.
