Charlie Condou plays Marcus Dent
Charlie Condou (born 8 January 1973) plays Marcus Dent in Coronation Street.
Charlie’s professional acting career began at the age of 12 with a role in the American movie The Key To Rebecca (directed by David Hemmings). As a teenager he also appeared in Robin of Sherwood, Every Breathe You Take and The Storyteller.
As an adult, Charlie appeared in a number of well-known shows prior to joining the cast of Coronation Street in 2007. These include comedy series Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, drama series Casualty, Peak Practice and Midsomer Murders.
The character of Marcus initially left Coronation Street after one year on-screen; Charlie was later asked to reprise the role in 2011 and has been on show since.
Charlie is openly gay and lives with his partner and two children. He is a supporter of a number of charities that work for gay rights. In October 2012, he was named in the British gay publication, Attitude, as the magazine's "Man of the Year".
He has his own column in The Guardian newspaper.
