New Zealand rebounded from their opening draw with the Solomon
Islands by thumping Samoa 7-1 in the under-20 Oceania Championships
on Tuesday.
Sam Jenkins, who plays for Hawke's Bay United in the NZFC, bagged a
hat-trick while Dan Keat, substitute Michael Cunningham and full
All Whites Chris James and Jeremy Brockie were also on target for
the hosts.
New Zealand coach Stu Jacobs was happy with his side's improved
effort in their second match of the tournament.
"If we had of passed on some of the responsibility in front of goal
it could have been 10 or 12 but we went out today to score goals
and we've done that," Jacobs told NZSoccer.com
"It was a step up from Friday so we're more than happy with the
result. We're in the hunt big time now."
In Tuesday's other result Vanuatu and Tahiti drew 2-2.
The next match for the New Zealand side is against Tahiti at 5pm on
Thursday at Douglas Field in Henderson.
