New Zealand will be pushing trade and climate change at the second East Asia Summit which gets underway in the Philippines on Monday.
India has already said it will help revive the stalled Doha global trade talks but will not agree to any measure which will endanger the livelihood of its farming sector.
Leaders of the 10-member Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), along with China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand will aim to sign an energy security pact that will examine the possibility of a regional fuel stockpile.
Prime Minister Helen Clark says there is plenty on the agenda.
She says they will be discussing energy, disaster preparation, pandemics and education.
Clark says the energy issue is a big one for her personally as any resolution could help with climate change problems.
