Telecom is denying reports in the Sydney Morning Herald that CEO Theresa Gattung may be about to step down.

The paper is reporting that the company's board is expected to begin a formal search for a replacement within weeks.

There has been speculation Gattung would go after billions of dollars were wiped from the company's share value when the government announced changes to the way the telecommunications sector is regulated.

Telecom spokesman John Goulter has confirmed there is currently no search underway for a new CEO.

Telecom ups line rental charges

Earlier on Monday Telecom announced plans to increase line rentals charges from March, when they will go up between $1 and $1.85.

Telecom spokesman Kevin Bowler says the increase is unavoidable because of cost increases across many areas of the business.

The rises will vary for different plans and different parts of New Zealand.
