A rising Kiwi sailor has turned plenty of heads on day one of the National Match racing Champs in Auckland on Friday.

Adam Minoprio has outshone plenty of big guns, beating Chris Dickson and Dean Barker amongst others.

At the end of Friday Minoprio shares the lead with Oracle's Gavin Brady after 14 of the 18 round robin races.

Minoprio says it's incredible to be beating household names after a winter overseas working on their sailing.
