Labour says Don Brash's ties with the Exclusive Brethren have gone too far and he now has no choice than to resign.

If follows an interview Brash gave on TVNZ's Agenda programme on Saturday morning, in which he refused to rule out future meetings with the Exclusive Brethren.

Labour's strategist Pete Hodgson says the public can't trust Brash and he should step down as National leader for the sake of parliament, his party and the public.

Hodgson says he went through the entire election campaign claiming he supports mainstream New Zealand, and yet the Exclusive Brethren are as far from mainstream as you can get.

He says news the Exclusive Brethren have conducted secret investigations into ministers represents a new low in New Zealand politics.
