Submitting a Programme Proposal

A programme idea should be submitted in the form of a written programme proposal accompanied by an assessment form. If your proposal is submitted electronically, please be aware that we have no way of guaranteeing its confidentiality.

We prefer programme proposals to be submitted by production companies and therefore if you are not a Production Company we suggest that you contact one to assist you with developing your proposal.

When your written proposal has been received, we will confirm in writing that we have received it. A commissioning editor will review the proposal and contact the Production Company within six weeks should they wish to proceed further. If your proposal is not commissioned we will return the proposal to the address stated in the proposal.

We take the utmost care to protect the intellectual property of all proposals that we receive. We log all proposals received and store hard copies of proposals. We will keep your proposal until a decision has been made after consulting with Programming.

We treat all proposals in confidence. You may consult a lawyer and use a personal confidentiality agreement if required. In the interests of respecting confidentiality, material is not kept on file if a project will not progress to production. All materials will be returned to you.

Proposal Guide

Whilst proposals will be received at any time, if your proposal is for a NZ On Air funding round, we will now require these two weeks prior to the NZ On Air deadlines.

There are a few simple steps to follow to submit a proposal.

1. Complete the Proposal
A complete written proposal explaining your programme idea is essential to ensure the commissioning editor has sufficient information to properly evaluate your proposal.

2. Complete the Proposal and Assessment Submission Form
A Programme Assessment Form is the first step in our assessment process and provides summary information about your proposal. The Programme Assessment Form should be attached to the front of your proposal.
