Literacy Aotearoa is a national network of adult literacy providers that was established in 1982.
As a leading commentator on literacy issues in Aotearoa (New Zealand) their mission is "to develop accessible quality literacy services to meet the needs of all people".
They are committed to student-centred learning at no direct cost to the learner and have developed a number of alliances and relationships with Iwi, tertiary education institutions, businesses and other organisations to deliver training and literacy services.
1,600 volunteer tutors; trained by Literacy Aotearoa; provide literacy services to over 7,000 students in 2004.
Literacy Aotearoa provides training, professional development and a range of resources for both students and tutors.
