What a news reporter does -

A reporter's role is to assess what is going to make a good story and pull all the key elements together (i.e. getting the key people on camera). Reporters always need to keep in the back of their mind what their story is going to look like when it goes to air that night, therefore key elements of their role include script writing and liaising with editors to creating a professional newsworthy story. A television news story can be anything from 50 seconds to 2 minutes plus in length.

What I like about being a ONE News Reporter -

"I get to see people from all walks of life and get close to people that you wouldn't normally get the chance to meet. I also share in people's joys, sorrows, ups and downs and every day is different." Lorelei Mason, Reporter, ONE News

What qualifications do I need to become a journalist?

Most of our news reporters have a tertiary qualification in journalism or something similar. Some start at TVNZ as graduates others join TVNZ later in their career after they have gained experience elsewhere.
