The man shot during an incident in an Auckland gunshop last month has appeared in the Auckland District Court charged with assault with intent to rob.
Ricky James Beckham, 29 has been in hospital for more than a week recovering from a gunshot wound to the stomach .
He was shot after allegedly threatening shop staff with a machete and demanding they give him a gun so he could kill himself.
He has been remanded in custody for a fortnight for a psychiatric assessment.
