The All Blacks aren't banking on another demolition of the Wallabies' scrum in Saturday night's return Bledisloe Cup match in Brisbane.
Australia's much maligned front row struggled when New Zealand finished 32-12 winners in the Tri-Nations rugby union series opener in Christchurch on July 9.
But All Blacks prop Greg Somerville on Monday played down prospects of a repeat in Saturday's second Bledisloe match at Suncorp Stadium.
"Scrums change from week to week and performances are never the same," the 52-test veteran said.
"So we'll just have to wait and see. Our feet are still on the ground here. We're not thinking about what happened a couple of weeks ago."
All Blacks props Carl Hayman and Tony Woodcock dominated Wallabies opponents Greg Holmes and Guy Shepherdson in Christchurch.
But Somerville, who maintained the NZ scrum superiority that day at Jade Stadium off the bench, seems to have learned from South Africa's mistake in vowing to target the Australian forwards.
After threatening to continue the scrum misery for the Wallabies with their hefty front row, the Springboks left Suncorp Stadium on July 15 embarrassed 49-0 by Australia.
"There could be different people out there and it will be totally different," Somerville said of the scrum match up.
While acknowledging the importance of scrum dominance, Somerville said it didn't always help to overcome the Wallabies, who have not lost a test at Suncorp Stadium.
"The Wallabies, to their credit, it (the scrum) is not necessarily the be all and end all," he said.
"They can still work some pretty good plays if it doesn't go right."
Somerville, 28, praised 130kg Reds prop Rodney Blake, who is challenging for a Wallabies front row spot after recovering from an ankle injury.
"I think he's an extremely promising player," he said of the twice capped 23-year-old.
"Obviously Australia will be hoping that he stays for a long time I would say.
"He's a big boy, strong, and scrummages well but more than that he offers a lot around the field.
"There's definitely a presence when he's out there so I'm sure they'll be getting him back in there pretty soon."
Somerville said Suncorp was an intimidating venue for visiting teams but he at least has tasted recent success in Brisbane when the Crusaders topped the Reds 47-21 in a Super 14 match in February.
Both Australia and NZ will name their test teams on Tuesday.
