Shona Lee, 17 faces talented Luxembourg player Claudine Schaul who is currently at 172 but has been as high as 41 in the world.

Unranked 16-year-old Kairangi Vano of Auckland is up against Japan's Ryoko Fuda who has a ranking of 163. Vano is second on court four from 10am.

Tracey O'Connor the most experience of the Kiwi quartet plays Austrian Yvonne Meusburger. O'Connor is listed at 626 while Meusburger is 135.

The last direct entrant is American Jessica Kirkland at 190 who plays third seed and 2002 ASB Classic finalist Tatiana Panova in the first round.
