Years in the making, The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch
And The Wardrobe is the first-ever big-screen adaptation of the
classic novel, which sold more than 100 million copies
worldwide.
Set in World War II England, the Pevensie children enter the world
of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of
'hide-and-seek' in the rural country home of an elderly professor.
Once there, they discover a charming, peaceful land inhabited by
talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs and giants. But it has
become a world cursed to eternal winter by the evil White Witch,
Jadis (Tilda Swinton).
Under the guidance of a noble and mystical ruler, the lion Aslan, the children fight to defeat the White Witch's powerful hold over Narnia, finishing in a spectacular, climactic battle that will free Narnia from Jadis' icy spell forever.
The film marks the first live-action directorial effort for the Oscar-winning New Zealander Andrew Adamson (Shrek), who co-wrote the screenplay adaptation with Emmy Award-winner Ann Peacock (A Lesson Before Dying) and scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
Adamson says: "The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe has taken millions of young minds into realms of fantasy. The enormous challenge as a filmmaker was to try to recreate those worlds in a way that might live up to and even exceed people's imaginations, that could truly transport you to another time and place.
Touching on eternal themes of good and evil, and of the power of family, courage and hope in the darkest moments, The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe is a timeless, classic fable.
