Two New Zealanders caught in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck have been found.

Auckland man Brendan Clifford-Walsh, 65, has been found safe and well in Dallas, nine days after he last emailed his family and told them he was being evacuated to the Superdome in New Orleans.

On Saturday he was taken to Dallas and he's now continuing his trip across America. Clifford-Walsh's niece, Dara Walsh, says it is a massive weight off the family's mind.

Expat Nathan Crispin, 32, has also been located. He sent his wife out of town and stayed behind to protect their New Orleans apartment. The Red Cross has been delivering him food.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says three other New Zealanders are still unaccounted for.

The missing three are known to be based in the New Orleans area, but it is still not known if they were actually caught up in the hurricane.

Donations for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort can be made to the New Zealand Red Cross on 0800 733 276, or through The Salvation Army on 0800 530 000.
