Sylvester Stallone, 58, is to return to the movie screens as Rambo with filming due to begin in Sofia, Bulgaria early next year, according to the movie's production company Nu Image-Millennium Films.

The movie, which will also use locations in the US and India, will see the character of Rambo living a quiet existence and connecting to his native American roots.

But he is forced to don his famous headband again when his young daughter is kidnapped by white supremacists.

If the movie is a success, the world might see more of the heroic action figure.

"It's a franchise," said producer Avi Lerner. "If No 4 works, then you have a No 5."
