The 39 Challenge is new to Americas Cup racing but it has plenty of experience in international yachting.
The leaders of the team are rivals from the Finn class in the 2000 Olympic Games. Luca Devoti won silver behind gold medalist Iain Percy of Great Britain in the Sydney Games.
The third Italian team will use a training boat of Alinghi's from the successful 2003 America's Cup.
