The police say there are signs the drink drive message is getting through, with fewer alcohol related deaths on the country's roads on the Christmas period.
Since Christmas Eve, there have been seven fatal road crashes.
The national safety manager, Superintendent Steve Fitzgerald, says two of those are suspected of being alcohol related.
He says that figure is on the low side for this time of year.
Fitzgerald says there's still a core 1% of drivers who drink and drive, and put others at risk.
