Ryles to miss GB test

Jason Ryles is trying hard to keep a smile on his face as injury once again stalls his representative rugby league career.

Ryles' latest dice with physical damage came on Saturday when he tore a hamstring at training, ruling him out of this weekend's Tri Nations test with Great Britain at Wigan's JJB Stadium.

The St George Illawarra prop, who missed last year's Ashes series with a career-threatening shoulder injury, could also be unavailable for the clash with France the following weekend.

However, Ryles is confident he'll be back for the Tri Nations final at Elland Road on November 27.

"I was running and ... I felt a bit of a twinge there," he said.

"The doctor said it was more the scar tissue from the old injury so hopefully it's only a week or two. It's disappointing but there's not a lot you can do about it.

"All you can do is worry about getting it better and trying to do as much as you can to prevent them. I can't be getting sad about it over the next couple of weeks.

"I just have to stay upbeat and do everything I can to get it better."

Ryles' setback further depletes an Australian side already missing captain Darren Lockyer (rib) and halfback Craig Gower (groin).

Their absence hasn't affected the world champions thus far, with the Kangaroos yet to lose after three Tri Nations games.

But their biggest test will come on Saturday night against a confident Great Britain outfit.

"They're not a team without talent, they have lots of talent," Bennett said.

"They have been building towards this and they have changed a lot of things in their system. They've had a huge influence from Australian coaches on what happens here and it's made a big difference."

Provided Australia emerges from that game unscathed, Bennett is hopeful his injured trio will be ready to meet the French in Toulouse.

"We expect they would all play before the end of the series - that's our anticipation at the moment," Bennett said.

"We have France to play next week and if they're fit to play in France they'll play in France. That's what we're working for, to have them fit for the final.

"Bob Fulton pushed pretty hard for (us to bring 25 players) and it turned out to be a very wise choice. I was thinking last night if we had gone with the 23 we were going to go with we would be down to 20 and training hasn't even finished for the week.

"It's worked out really well actually. It's the ideal number to take."
