Injured shooter Catherine Cox has urged national netball coach Norma Plummer not to surrender her spot in the Australian squad.
Australia tours New Zealand next week but Cox is yet to discover the full extent of damage to her wounded right ankle.
The Sydney Swift shooter initially feared she had broken the ankle during the third quarter of last Friday's loss to Adelaide.
An x-ray revealed no fracture, but an MRI tomorrow will reveal the whether it's serious enough to prevent her leaving with the Australian team on Sunday.
She was unable to join her national team-mates in Melbourne this weekend when they beat England 51-21 and 55-21 in two practice matches.
Plummer took the precautionary measure of calling up three more shooters, Adelaide's Kristen Heinrich, AIS-Canberra captain Susan Pratley and Cox's Sydney team-mate Jane Altschwager.
They all received court time alongside established squad shooters Sharelle McMahon and Cynna Neele.
New Zealand-born Cox, the National Netball League's most prolific shooter this season, spent this weekend tending her injury in the hope of making her first tour of the country of her birth as a senior Australian player.
"She texted me today saying she's walking around on the ankle and asked me not to give her position away just yet," Plummer said.
"I sent back a text saying I definitely won't until we find out. We need the information sitting in front of us to make an informed decision about it.
"She has been probably the number one shooter in the competition so far this year, so I'm not going to let that go lightly."
Plummer said she hadn't made a decision about a potential replacement for Cox.
While Australia enjoyed lop sided wins over England this weekend, Plummer felt it had been a worthwhile exercise with one more match between the two teams scheduled in Melbourne next Saturday.
"Yesterday was a little bit hit and miss for a few of the quarters because I'd bought in three shooters and they had never played with one another, but the scoreline showed we were putting it out there," Plummer said.
"And today there was some very good netball, so I was quite pleased with the whole weekend.
"I think by next Saturday, now that we've had time back together, we will be much more improved after next weekend."
In National League action, the Swifts lost their unbeaten record and only lead on percentage from Adelaide after the Thunderbirds beat them 48-42 in Sydney.
Third placed Melbourne Kestrels move to within two points of the lead with a 53-37 away win over Perth Orioles.
Defending champion Melbourne Phoenix remained fourth, four points behind the top two but four in front of Hunter Jaegers with a 67-58 away win over AIS-Canberra.
McMahon eclipsed Joanne Morgan's all-time competition record of 3,285 by scoring 37 against the Darters.
"I'm more worried about the percentage I shoot and what I do with the opportunities my team-mates give me in the circle rather than the actual amount I shoot," McMahon said.
Queensland ended its club record equalling losing streak of 13 with a 42-41 home win over Hunter.
