The High Court in Whangarei has heard that an angry murder-accused stormed away from partygoers, threatening to kill them moments before she drove a car into them.
Julie Johnson, a 20-year-old single parent from Hikurangi, is accused of murdering 16-year-old Renee Brown, who died after she was struck by Johnson's car.
She is also charged with intentionally injuring 15 other young people after driving her car through guests at a party at Springs Flat near Whangarei on the night of February 15 last year.
Johnson has been described as intoxicated and at times aggressive during the night. She admits driving through partygoers, but her defence says she did not have murderous intent.
On Thursday some of the other people at the party gave evidence at the trial.
Jeff Marsters, who suffered serious injuries after being struck by Johnson's car, was the designated driver who took Brown and others to the 18th birthday party. Marsters told the court they were about to leave the party so Brown would not miss her 1am curfew, when the incident happened.
Marsters said he was lying on the ground when he regained consciousness, but did not know what had hit him.
Another witness told the court that Johnson accelerated through the crowd of partygoers and "people just flew everywhere."
An ambulance paramedic said the scene was one of absolute pandemonium.
