The new chief social worker for Child, Youth and Family says a measure of her success will be in making sure there are no more child deaths from neglect and abuse.
Shannon Pakura takes over the high-profile role from Mike Doolan who is retiring after working in child welfare for more than 40 years.
Pakura has been the department's manager of residential and caregiver services. She says she wants to support frontline staff to do their job properly by overcoming a recent climate of fear.
Pakura says practice managers to be appointed at 38 Child, Youth and Family offices will provide supervision and ongoing training for social workers.
