The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Tyler Thigpen from the Kansas City Chiefs after losing starter Chad Pennington to a shoulder injury.

Pennington sustained what appeared to be a season-ending injury during Monday's 23-13 loss to the San Diego Chargers and was placed on the injury reserve list on Wednesday.

Kansas City received an undisclosed selection in the 2010 NFL draft, the Chiefs said on their website (www.kcchiefs.com).

A seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2007 draft, Thigpen played 16 games in three seasons with the Chiefs, completing 232 of 426 passes for 2,649 yards with 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
