New Zealand suffered a poor outing at Portugal's Algarve circuit, crashing out of both Monday morning's Sprint and Feature races at round six of the A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport series.
In the opening Sprint race, New Zealand driver Earl
Bamber spun into a gravel trap on the opening lap after contacting the car from Lebanon while attempting a passing move.
In the Feature race, Bamber made a strong impression on the opening lap to move up to sixth place from 11th position on the starting grid.
A combination of good driving and a gamble with pit stop tactics saw Black Beauty move as high as third in the race.
Bamber began attacking South Africa for second place but a brake lock-up by the New Zealander saw Black Beauty hit the South African car from behind, causing damage that would rule both cars out of the race.
"The promising thing is we had strong pace today," New Zealand team manager John Sears said.
"It's just unfortunate that a couple mistakes meant we weren't able to deliver the result."
Without any points this weekend, New Zealand drop one place to seventh in the championship standings.
The last round of the series will be at Brands Hatch in England on May 3.
