Meridian Energy is confident there has been enough investment in new electricity generation projects.

The SOE has released a new version of its Choices discussion document, looking at the future of electricity generation.

The report says new capacity has exceeded growth in demand for power since the market system came into force, in 1996.

It says another three thousand gigawatts worth of capacity will come on stream over the next couple of years.

However Meridian says despite this there are still concerns among some experts who fear New Zealand won't have enough power in the future.
