So who could miss it? The capital ... the country came to a standstill. It was a carnival fit for a King. New Zealand made movie-making history with the world premiere of the final of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Everyone who was anyone made it to Wellington for a piece of the action - and that included the Flipside team. They showed as much as they could in their weekly show, but this special includes even more talent as Evie Ashton and Mike Puru return with an hour of middle earth madness for Flipside Extra - The Lord of the Rings Special, screening Sunday December 28th at 6.30pm
The final chapter in director Peter Jackson's critically acclaimed, Academy Award-winning trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is an astounding conclusion to the epic journey of men, hobbits, elves, dwarves and the rest of Middle-earth's creatures and cultures as they wage the ultimate fight for good against evil.
"In addition to these huge battles, you have these intimate stories, the emotional story, and that's where most of the power of The Return of the King really lies," says director/co-writer/producer Peter Jackson.
Waging their own war through fans and media on the red carpet, Mike and Evie share their intimate stories and interviews with the stars.
Flipside Extra - The Lord of the Rings Special includes personal interviews with Peter Jackson, costume and special FX Oscar winner Richard Taylor, Kiwi writer Philippa Boyens, Producer Barrie Osbourne and all the stars including Andy Serkis (Gollum), the hobbits, Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Liv Tyler (Arwen), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Sir Ian McKellan (Gandalf), John Rhys Davies (Gimli), John Noble (Denethor) - who makes his LOTR debut in the third movie - and David Wenham (Faramir).
There's also barefoot stroking and bare shoulder caressing, exclusive footage of Sir Ian McKellan's impromptu walkabout at 2am to fans waiting by the red carpet, and emotional comments from cast, crew and well known Kiwis who went to the premiere.
