Two Australian climbers have been airlifted to safety in what is the sixth rescue in the Mount Cook National Park in less than a week.
Twizel police say one of the men became stuck on a rock wall on Friday night after they set out for Haast Hut via the Tasman Glacier.
His companion continued the climb and raised the alarm when he reached the hut on Saturday morning.
The stuck climber was found and rescued by searchers about 9am Saturday and both men were flown out of the park uninjured.
Senior Constable Brent Swanson says the pair were not adequately prepared for the trip and took on a route that was beyond their capabilities.
Four Latvian climbers were killed on Mt Cook on Wednesday.
