Hawkes narrowly beaten in quarters

New Zealand squash player Jaclyn Hawkes has been beaten by Madeline Perry in the quarterfinals of the world championships in Manchester.

Hawkes was on track for another upset after wining the opening two sets 11-6, 11-5 before Perry fought back to narrowly win the final three sets 11-9, 12-10, 11-9.

Hawkes has been impressive at these championships, beating players ranked well above her to progress.

In the other games Jenny Duncalf of England beat Natalie Grinham of Australia, Vicky Botwright beat fellow Englishwomen Alison Waters and Nicol David progressed against Omneya Abdel Kawy.
