The first steps on the road to another Treaty deal will be taken in Tauranga on Saturday afternoon.
Terms of Negotiation with Ngati Ranginui are being signed in at a ceremony at Hairini Marae.
Chairman Lou Gates says it is a significant day for the iwi.
Gates says among their claims will be Crown-held assets the Government can legitimately give back.
He says the iwi is pragmatic enough to understand the Government can never give back all their land, but that these negotiations will ensure some is returned.
Gates says Ngati Ranginui are also looking for compensation for commercial opportunities they claim they have been denied.
