The National Party is vowing to write off the student loans for hundreds of new doctors and nurses if they stay to work in New Zealand once they have graduated.
Leader John Key made the announcement while campaigning in the Wairarapa.
He says the bonding policy will see several hundred doctors, nurses and midwives, who work for the first three years in a hard-to-staff part of New Zealand, have up to $30,000 written off their student loan.
He says it will mean they can pay off their loans much quicker.
