Convicted murderer Antonie Dixon made a webpage showing pictures of himself behind bars and even boasted of his crime.

Dixon, who was found guilty of murder and grievous bodily harm for the second time by a jury, has already been in jail for five years.

He took the pictures, published on a MySpace page, on a cellphone when he was behind bars and then was able to post them on the internet, prompting questions as to how this was possible.

His MySpace page has pictures of him in various poses and he has branded himself "Tony Dixon aka Samurai Sword". He also brags about chopping up two women.

Several of the photos show Dixon's tattoos, including one on his chest that was done in prison, saying "Gangster Killer Club"

The Corrections Department did not know that such a page existed until ONE News told them and they asked Dixon how he was able to create the page on the popular social networking site.

"We do know from interviewing the prisoner that he has confirmed that he has used a person from outside the prison to establish the website," says Warren Cummins from the Corrections Department.

The revelation has angered many including Dixon's victim's partner.

Jules Cropley, the partner of James Te Aute, the man Dixon murdered said she was shocked, and said for a murderer who is behind bars; Dixon still manages to get exactly what he wants.

The Sensible Sentencing Trust is also disgusted. Garth McVicar says the website itself should be shut down immediately.

"But there should be some prosecutions & you find out who allowed it, how it's happening and there should be some accountability there," says McVicar.

The cellphone used to take the pictures has not yet been found, but ONE News understands Dixon is hiding it inside himself.

Cummins says if that is the case, there are techniques used to retrieve the object.

"Typically we use a number of different techniques but if someone is hiding it in a manner that isn't immediately obvious we would put them in a place until it became immediately obvious & without giving any gory details".

The details of just who helped Dixon to set up the website is now a matter for Police.

Corrections say cellphone blocking technology, due to be installed in prisons, will hopefully end scenarios like this and a request to MySpace to remove the killer's webpage is underway.

In the meantime, Dixon's lawyers are already planning another appeal, which is sure to cost the New Zealand taxpayer again.

Figures obtained by ONE News from the Legal Services Agency (LSA), who give out the legal aid money, under the Official Information Act reveals that the first Antonie Dixon trial in 2005 cost the tax payer $212,000 and the appeal cost $18,000.

There are no figures yet on how much the latest trial is costing, but if the costs of the first trial are anything to go by and if the latest appeal decision is accepted, the Dixon trial is sure to cost the New Zealand tax payer upwards of half a million dollars.
